KEARNEY, NEB. - Franklin Pierce University, ranked 18th in the final regular season USA Today / ESPN / WBCA Division II poll, made its debut at the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight against No. 9 University of Alaska Anchorage on March 26, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Though Franklin Pierce lost in overtime, the game marked the first time the women have reached the Division II Elite Eight in program history. The Ravens made it to Nebraska after they captured their first Northeast Regional championship by posting an 88-71 victory at top-seeded, No. 4-ranked, and previously unbeaten Holy Family University in Philadelphia.
This allowed Franklin Pierce to make its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history overall - and first since 1999. The Ravens also reached the NCAAs in 1992, '93, '94 and '98.
Among other accomplishments:
Franklin Pierce University sophomore Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Academy (Conn.)) was named the State Farm Division II Women's Player of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches of America (WBCA).
