Franklin Pierce University's College of Graduate & Professional Studies is honored to have many successful and distinguished alumni. Living models of the Graduate Studies mission to graduate leaders of conscience, these alumni have assumed key roles of responsibility within their organizations and communities.
James Dunphy, MBA '01, put his classroom learning to use right away as Senior Vice President at Granite Bank and Ocean National Bank. Within a few short years, Dunphy worked to establish Hampshire First Bank, a strong community bank focused on the success of its customers. Today, he is the CEO and President of Hampshire First Bank which is based in Manchester with branches in Nashua and Keene. The Bank's common stock is traded on NASDAQ under the symbol "HFBN." Dunphy believes his Franklin Pierce education helped prepare him for the leadership roles he holds today and says of his experience Franklin Pierce professors,
"(Professors) cared enough to help you expand and they also helped you balance the demands of life, school, work and family. It was obviously more than a job for them - it was their passion."
Since graduating just over a year ago, I have been promoted twice and am now in the process of relocating to St Louis to head up the Pricing/Promotion department for the Best Practice Organization within Purina. My job is to work with all strategic U.S. customers and other Nestle divisions across the world to develop and implement pricing/promotion strategies that will help us gain sustainable advantages in the market. I am now much better positioned to continue to obtain key positions within the company. One major lesson I learned coming out of the M.B.A. program was "confidence;" be the person who takes on the task when others are afraid to. Nothing is unsolvable! The M.B.A. program gave me the confidence and tools to stand out in an organization as big as Purina.
