Abstract:
The greatest writers in history have taken inspiration from music, art, and others’ words to produce some of the most iconic works in the literary canon. On this panel. FPU students from the English program flip the script and present their own artistic pieces inspired by great works of literature. Each student will present their piece and provide an explanation of the literary analyses that led them to make their artistic choices. Kennedy Morris will perform a song she wrote called "Living in a Memory " that was inspired by the women central to the novel Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Michaela Auffrey will show an original art piece she created in reaction to W.H. Auden’s poem “Law, Like Love,” which exposes the social construct of justice in relation to human emotion. After conducting a deep analysis of The Love Song of Alfred Prufrock, Karoline Hartner crafted an original poem that mirrors the structure and echoes T.S. Eliot’s modernist “swan song,” while also offering her critique and reflection on contemporary society.
