Presentation Title: "Body Composition, Nutrition-related Behaviors and Performance of Franklin Pierce University Football Athletes"
Abstract:
The overall goal of this semi-quantitative, primary research is to assess if repeated anthropometric measures, diet analyses and nutrition-related interventions are associated with improved nutrition, health and performance outcomes of Division II FPU football players. The study is two-tiered. First, the dietary and supplement-use behaviors of 75 players (entire team) were generally assessed by survey at the beginning of the spring semester. As a follow-up, 4 informational workshops were presented every two weeks to the entire team on topics related to nutrition and performance. Evaluation and influence of those workshops on targeted behaviors will occur in late April 2026. Second, 45 players consented to participate in a more intensive evaluation including repeated body composition analysis (pre/post), repeated, nutrient level dietary analyses (6 days), assessments of barriers to healthy eating or eating for performance, and self-efficacy related to dietary behavior change. These players are also being provided with specifically curated nutrition and performance learning opportunities, both in person and online (in addition to the Team Nutrition Sessions). This presentation will examine the results of this research (to date) and how the protocol and outcomes may be applicable to other FPU Division II collegiate athletes
