Presentation Title: "Do Fidget Toys Improve Focus and Grades?"

Abstract:

Fidget toys have grabbed the attention of students of all ages. Specifically, the “Needoh” squishy toy has gained instant popularity. Students- even at the college level- are purchasing these squishies and bringing them to class, claiming that they aid in managing their concentration and stress.

Several studies have been conducted to determine whether fidget toys actually provide any benefit. Our goal for this project is to evaluate and review these studies to conclude our own opinion. With students explaining that squishies allow greater concentration and retention, we want to focus on research involving academic performance in regard to the use of fidget toys. We want to create our own judgement if there's any positive correlation between the use of fidget toys and academic performance. The hope is to put forward our findings to peers and allow for maximum understanding of all risks and/or benefits of using squishies or fidget toys. We are also interested in exploring the affects of squishies with individuals on the spectrum and to see what benefits are associated with them.
