Abstract:

This research examines the intrinsic link between military expenditure, security alliances, and the perceived threat of conflict during wartime and peacetime. The study demonstrates this dynamic within the context of changing geopolitical discourse of the 21st century, focusing specifically on the historic shift in Japan's approach to foreign policy. It analyzes the resurgence of great power rivalry and the shift from a period of post-Cold War politics of interdependence and cooperation to a more transactional and nationalistic approach to global politics.
