Presentation Title: "Literature Review of Dark Triad with focus on Machiavellianism"
Abstract:
The presentation is a literature review about the dark triad of personality focusing on Machiavellianism. It’s about how people who exhibit Machiavellian traits typically have negative goals leading them to have poor decision making. The literature review highlights links between the other aspects of the dark triad which are psychopathy and narcissism. This presentation comes from the psychological perspectives of sociocultural, behavioral, and slightly humanistic. Individuals who express traits of the dark triad tend to be callous, entitled, grandiose, manipulative, and self-centered and are willing to exploit others to achieve personal goals. This group can come off as charming initially but tend to lack empathy and take unneeded risks overall leading to decision making revolving around power and how others view them. People with these traits oftentimes ignore normal societal morals which can also lead to criminal behavior. The literature review seeks to understand the behavior that is exhibited by this group and specifically what role Machiavellianism plays. It’s important to understand these facets of personality because it can help identify exploitive, unethical, toxic behavior and some cases even financial and emotional harm in numerous settings such as professional and personal relationships.
