Abstract:
The University’s sustainably goals. The central question of the study was what is the measurable impact of motion sensor lighting on electricity usage, carbon emissions, and cost savings across different types of campus spaces (e.g., classrooms, restrooms, hallways)?
Using data from past study conducted in 2016 as well as data currently being collecting during a monitoring period in 2026, the study involves a comparative analysis to test the changes in energy consumption over time. The study will estimate the percentage of kilowatt-hours consumption before and after implementation. This will allow us to calculate the cost saving, estimate carbon emissions reductions and the financial benefits.
Past finding suggests that if we installed motion sensor lighting in 18 low traffic rooms on campus would significantly reduce idle energy consumption. The result indicates large measurable cost saving and reduction in carbon. Overall, the study demonstrates that motion sensor lighting represents a practical and scalable strategy for improving energy efficiency in university facilities.
