Abstract:
Bioinformatics is a critical tool for genomic analysis and for determining evolutionary relationships of species. In this study, the Sima gene was analyzed in D. serrata to investigate the orthology with Sima in D. melanogaster. Bioinformatic tools were used to annotate exons, introns, isoforms, start codons, stop codons, and protein structure of the gene. The Sima gene in D. serrata shared most characteristics of the Sima gene in D. melanogaster, supporting orthology. Although this research focused on Drosophila, its findings have broader implications due to Sima’s putative human homolog, HIF, a critical protein for hypoxia and insulin signaling.
