Abstract:
This presentation highlights the inspiration, execution, and challenges of starting
a non profit by explaining the process firsthand. Devin Johnson, a sophomore business
student, hosted a winter Christmas event called The Presents for Pierce Concert. He
handled all facets of coordinating the business in order to guide it to success. This
exercise led him to discover and overcome many challenges a new business faces. Topics
discussed in this presentation include writing business proposals, event scheduling,
equipment management, attaining a venue, marketing tactics, fund management and talking
to sponsors. The presentation will also include a post event analysis which is a reflection
of the experience. This will include a breakdown of funding and revenue, an extended
analysis of the marketing campaign, and a viewer turnout estimation. This presentation
is a glimpse of everything new businesses deal with as they begin and provides insight
on some of the reasons most businesses fail early.
