Presentation Title: "Temporal and spatial aerosol optical properties using Three AERONET Sites"
Abstract:
We present the temporal and seasonal variability of aerosol radiative properties at three Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) sites, Tudor Hill in Bermuda, Key Biscayne, and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida, using 10 years (2016–2025) of Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) data. These three North Atlantic sites represent, respectively, a clean, open-ocean site; a coastal site influenced by urban activities in South Florida; and marine, biomass burning, and Biogenic activities. The seasonal variability of aerosol optical depth (AOD at 500 nm) and the Angstrom exponent (α), and the precipitable variability in these different stations will be presented and explained in terms of the possible seasonal aerosol background. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) HYSPLIT back-trajectory analysis will be used to examine long-range transport of air masses at these sites, identify background dust sources and regional urban contributions, and characterize seasonal cleaner marine air masses. Monthly and seasonal variations in the Angstrom exponent(α) values will be presented at three stations. Analysis of the Angstrom Exponent will enable us to distinguish the environments at the three sites. This comparison could provide clear differences between open-ocean and coastal-urban aerosol processes and improve understanding of aerosol transport and seasonal variability in marine environments.
