Presentation Title: "What do these genes do?"

Abstract:

Antibiotic resistant bacteria are a serious global health issue and is creating a need for new ways to fight bacterial infections. A promising new approach is using viruses that only kill bacteria. In this project we studied a bacteriophage that targets Salmonella. This bacteria is a common cause of food poisoning. We focused on testing a protein produced by the virus to see how it kills infectious bacteria. By trying to understand these proteins we hope to help guide the development of new treatments for bacterial infections.
