Healthcare Administration

Bachelor of Science major in Healthcare Administration.

Health Care AdministrationThe Franklin Pierce difference

The Healthcare Administration major prepares students to take on leadership roles in a variety of healthcare settings. Healthcare administrators focus on the business aspects of quality patient care, overseeing the administrative functions of health organizations. This interdisciplinary program looks at issues from a system-wide perspective, taking into consideration not only business management and health sciences topics, but also healthcare ethics, law, policy, and quality improvement for greater efficiencies and patient outcomes.

The Healthcare Administration major integrates classroom study, research, and an experiential field placement. The liberal arts core curriculum builds a foundational knowledge in business management, the sciences and humanities, along with strong communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Major courses encourage students to explore a range of career-focused topics in healthcare organization operations, financing, and the delivery of healthcare services.

Experiential learning is a key part of the curriculum. Students gain hands-on experience, skills, and knowledge by completing a 165-hour internship in a healthcare organization. Internships can be structured to focus on a student’s individual area of interest or provide exposure to a broader range of experiences. The University maintains a chapter membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) to connect our students with industry trends and leaders in the healthcare field at symposiums and other networking opportunities.
