Presentation Title: "Habitats of Bat Populations on Franklin Pierce University Campus Property"
Abstract:
The six bat species in New Hampshire are threatened by white nose syndrome and increasing temperature as the climate changes, knowing where bats are living and foraging can be helpful in management of land and for future conservation efforts as some species have severely declined due to White Nose Syndrome. The goal of this project is to determine which habitat bats prefer. Using an Ana Bat detector at 3 sites for 15 days to collect bat calls and feeding buzzes, a chi square analysis was conducted to determine the significance of calls and feeding buzzes. The Pearly Pond transects (water’s edge habitat) had the highest number of calls and feeding buzzes. This study determined that bats favor habitat near the water’s edge.
