Presentation Title: "Intoxication Imagination: Alcohol v. Brain & Legal System"
Abstract:
College students may encounter alcohol for the first time and are likely to engage in binge drinking behavior. Alcohol has large effects on the developing brain and behavioral consequences in the legal system. This interactive exhibit uses alcohol intoxication simulation goggles to open conversations with two faculty who approach the consequences of alcohol from different perspectives – from brain development to crime. Students can participate in basic motor coordination activities and “sobriety tests” with different levels of simulated blood alcohol concentrations. Ways to address problematic drinking will be offered including dispelling drinking myths, discussing healthier alternatives, and offering resources with how to cope with alcohol problems. Prevention of alcohol problems can start on campus to minimize harmful consequences to the self and society in the future.
