Presentation Title: "Are Child Abduction Policies Universally Beneficial in Investigating and Solving Highly Publicized Cases like Madeleine McCann?"
Abstract:
The purpose of the research paper presentation is to examine child abductions and kidnappings, and to determine if child abduction policies are universally and internationally beneficial for highly publicized cases like Madeleine McCann. The research shows that for these types of crimes young female children are typically the ideal victim for law enforcement and the media (Davies, Francis, and Greer 2017: 49). Usually taken by predominately white males who are strangers to victims and their families (Warren et al. 2020). It also shows that there is a limited amount of information on international policies that are implemented to aid in investigating and help safely return missing children. However, in the United States, policies like AMBER alerts are implemented and are proven to benefit in finding kidnapped children. The United States is more advanced with their polices than the European countries. With the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children the organization offers resources to law enforcement agencies to aid in investigating cases. International practices don't compare, but countries have been working on ways to adapt policies more like the United States.
