Presentation Title: "Consequent reality of sexual assault survivors"
Abstract:
In this review, sexual assault has been found to have profound aftereffects on the victim. Chanel Miller was a graduate student who was sexually assaulted at Stanford University in 2015 by a freshman athlete who was known in the school. Miller and others now speak out about their assaults to get their empowerment back, although, sexual assault cases are still under reported or pushed over because of shame. Victims go through extreme distress and change during and after an assault which has encouraged laws and policies to be put in place to help victims with their psychological and social needs. These programs are not disclosed to the victims like they are supposed to be, while the CJS continues to profit from them. Changes have been attempted to be made in support of victims, but ultimately did more damage.
