Presentation Title: "A lens on neurodiversity in the collegiate community"
Abstract:
A literature review was conducted to examine research regarding best practices for neurodiverse college student instruction. Research findings indicate a four-pronged focused approach to neurodiversity on a college campus: awareness of neurodiversities, pedagogical approaches, community support for neurodiverse students including improving self-agency and identification of strengths, and lastly targeted engagement of neurodiverse students in implementing personal and academic strategies. It was found most research primarily comes from a siloed approach to neurodiversity, focusing on just one identified category of neurodiversity at a time, instead a universal approach of inclusion of multiple neurodiversities. Research-based strategies and interventions for college-wide support for neurodiverse students are highlighted.
