Presentation Title: "The Impact of Digital Disinformation on Immigration Discourse in Europe: A comparative analysis of Spain and England"
Abstract:
This project aims to uncover the influence of digital disinformation on immigration
discourse in Europe, particularly in Spain and Germany. Specifically, I seek to understand
how disinformation spread through digital channels, its impact on public opinion regarding
immigration, and its consequences for democratic processes.
I will be researching the dissemination of digital disinformation related to immigration,
its reception by the public, and its effects on political attitudes and democratic
systems. This involves tracking quantitative indicators of disinformation spread,
including the frequency of hashtags related to immigration disinformation, the number
of shares, likes and comments on social media posts containing false information,
and the volume of views on videos or articles propagating misleading narratives. However,
the research will only focus on digital platforms such as social media, online websites,
and video-sharing platforms. While traditional media may contribute to the spread
of disinformation, I will prioritize digital channels due to their widespread usage
and influence in shaping public discourse. Also, I will only focus in Spain and Germany
and will not extend my analysis to other European countries in order to get more in-depth
examinations of contextual factors influencing the spread and reception of disinformation.
