BIOGRAPHY
Rebecca Rice is an award-winning choreographer, respected teacher, and the artistic director of Rebecca Rice Dance. Her work has been presented in the United States, France, Scotland and in Kazakhstan, where she was a Cultural Envoy with the US. State Department. Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Boston's Celebrity Series, Boston Ballet Company and School, World Music, American Dance Guild in NYC, Peabody Essex Museum, Boston Pops, and the Ballets Russes Cultural Partnerships have all presented her work. She has created over seventy professional works on her company, Rebecca Rice Dance, Boston Ballet II as well as organized the first Boston Ballet Choreography Workshops, “Studio 7 @ Boston Ballet”, with the Boston Ballet Company, working with Laura Young, Bruce Marks, Anna Marie Holmes and Mikko Nissinen. Born into a family of dancers, she spent her early years training with her grandmother, Marion Rice; a student of Ted Shawn and Denishawn, and performed with "Marion Rice Denishawn Dancers" at Jacob's Pillow and New York City. She trained with Bill Evans, Utah Repertory Dance Theater, Gerri Houlihan, and Viola Farber in New York City. As a performing artist, she performed professionally with various artists and companies throughout the US including Rebecca Rice Dance, Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, Bill Evans, Gerri Houlihan, Stephen Pelton and Marianne Goldberg. She received her BFA with honors in Modern Dance at the University of Utah and her M.Ed. at the University of Pittsburgh, where she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant/Fellow. As an artist/educator, she developed the modern and choreography programs at the Boston Ballet, MIT, and various private schools including the Winsor School, Dana Hall, and Cushing Academy. She was artist-in-residence at Green Street Studios in Cambridge and was an Art Fellow at the St. Botolph Club in Boston. Rebecca has been called "One of Boston's esteemed dance makers" by Gus Solomon’s Jr.EDUCATION
