TEACHING STATEMENT/PHILOSOPHY
Learning takes place in a variety of environments and social contexts. Every one of our human interactions, experiences, successes and failures, serve the fundamental purpose of gathering knowledge from which we base our life’s decisions; however, it is in the classroom where teachers are able to create a unique and focused learning environment that welcomes students to enter the academic conversation by fostering ideas, asking questions, challenging perceptions, establishing evidence-based premises, and communicating outcomes. From my experience with first-year students in the composition classroom, these are vital components because it is students at this level, perhaps more than any other, who are poised to embark on this new academic adventure with a fresh mindset, and are most responsive to new ways of seeing and thinking.ACADEMIC PROGRAM(S)
