Academic Showcase 2020 dives deep into “Water”

Academic Showcase at Franklin Pierce University is a much-anticipated spring tradition, highlighting the scholarly and creative work produced by students and faculty throughout the year. This year, students and faculty are following the governor’s “safer-at-home” orders, and the 11th Annual Academic Showcase is being presented virtually rather than in the usual day-long campus event.

Franklin Pierce University has announced it will still hold a graduation ceremony, though it will be delayed until this summer, and have a smaller scope than the university’s typical commencement.

Franklin Pierce University continues to monitor the spread of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, which was first detected in China and is now present in a number of countries, including the United States. These efforts will encompass our locations in New Hampshire, our center in Arizona and any planned activities or events, including study abroad programs.

At the awards ceremony on Wednesday, March 4, fourteen Rindge students received Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King Service Awards recognizing their commitment to service and volunteerism. Ayodele Ouhuru ’20, Carina Dillon’21, Kathryn Cunningham ’20, Victoria Vargas ’20, and Vincent Hall ’21 received Distinguished Honors and a $250 prize, recognizing the depth of their work toward justice and inclusion.

A week before the 2020 New Hampshire primary, NHPBS and the Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication partnered to produce and livestream the first-ever student broadcast of the New Hampshire Primary Mock Election. The four-hour live event was hosted by Alexander Heffner, host of PBS’s “Open Mind,” and included student co-hosts, state election officials, campaign workers, activists, and even Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard.
