No matter what you’re passionate about, law touches almost every facet of life—health care, technology, the environment, human rights, entertainment, international affairs, and even cyber-security. There is no “typical” legal career, and there is no “typical” law school student. You can explore the many diverse fields of law and find the path that is right for you here at the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). Franklin Pierce’s Pre-Law Advisory team is here to facilitate your understanding about how you learn best and to help you apply those insights to your studies as you continue your legal education and the many paths available to a rewarding career in law.
Franklin Pierce has established a partnership with the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce School of Law. By closely collaborating with this institution, we can provide you with the preparation to successfully complete your law degree and provide a seamless path for doing so.
Follow Your Passion
Pre-law students have the freedom to major in any area desired, which presents you with the incredible opportunity to create a personalized undergraduate college experience at Franklin Pierce. A major in any of these fields will cultivate the essential skills necessary to excel in law school, on the bar exam, and in legal practice.
According to the American Bar Association, Law Schools do not prefer any particular major or concentration of study:
“Students are admitted to law school from almost every academic discipline. You may choose to major in subjects that are considered to be traditional preparation for law schools, such as history, English, philosophy, political science, economics, or business, or you may focus your undergraduate studies in areas as diverse as art, music, science and mathematics, computer science, engineering, nursing, or education. Whatever major you select, you are encouraged to pursue an area of study that interests and challenges you, while taking advantage of opportunities to develop your research and writing skills. Taking a broad range of difficult courses from demanding instructors is excellent preparation for legal .”

Be Prepaired
Franklin Pierce University’s Pre-Law Advisory Program is designed to give you the tools you need to successfully sit for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Through this program you will gain the background in legal studies and government that will help you to excel in a future Juris Doctor program or political career while teaching you how to integrate your liberal arts education into your professional life so that you can have a successful academic and professional career.
As a pre-law student, you will receive sound advice on how to be a competitive law school applicant and guidance on selecting law schools and the application process. The two most important factors in law school admission decisions are the GPA of your undergraduate work and your LSAT scores. In general, you should strive for a minimum 3.0 GPA and an above average LSAT score (150+). Both curricular and extra-curricular activities play a role in your success.
Top Ten Quick Tips for Preparing for the LSAT
Preparing to navigate the law school application and enrollment process can feel overwhelming. The Franklin Pierce University’s Pre-Law Advisory team is here to support you every step of the way. While every path to law school is unique, there are some general words of advice that many law school graduates would share with their “pre-law selves” if given the chance.
These lessons learned from successful applicants can serve as a guide to help you cultivate the skills, experiences, knowledge, and interests to support your journey to law school and beyond:
Explore your interests broadly — both inside and outside of the classroom!
Learn more about how law is a part of every industry and how law intertwines with everyday life. The more you know, the better prepared you will be — but don’t worry about having specific “legal” experience prior to attending law school.
Understand that while courses like philosophy will help you develop critical thinking skills, any class that interests and challenges you will also provide a strong foundation upon which to begin your law school journey.
