In her recent Op-Ed piece in University Business magazine, President Kim Mooney urges university leaders to be thoughtful, interactive, and transparent in this unprecedented time. As our understanding of the COVID-19 virus evolves, she encourages leaders to acknowledge they don’t have all the answers about how campuses and programs will be affected. President Mooney shares her thoughts on embracing change, preserving the social fabric of the community, sharing and prioritizing information, expressing care and concern, empowering students, and being open and reassuring. |

“I have learned that the way we lead may not have changed that much during the pandemic,
but the way we communicate as leaders has evolved significantly,” wrote Mooney. “I
would encourage my counterparts who are also leading universities to consider just
how vital timely and candid communication can be when so much seems to have gone sideways
in our society and in our world.”
