A Great Day on the Course at the 2024 Rocky Golf Classic!
Jul 18, 2024
On Monday, July 15, athletic supporters of Franklin Pierce University came together for a day of spirited competition and camaraderie at the 2024 Rocky Classic Golf Tournament. The Rocky Classic marked another year of supporting Franklin Pierce student-athletes through program enhancements and facility upgrades, ensuring each student reaches their academic potential.
Over 120 golfers arrived in Townsend, Massachusetts at the Northern Spy Golf Course early in the morning. Golfers registered for the games, bought their mulligans, and took their chance on winning one of 25 raffle prizes. The table was decked with donated items ranging from Franklin Pierce University swag, a Yeti cooler, new golf gear, to tickets to a WooSox or New England Revolution game. More than 20 jars sat in front of the donated items.
Moments before the golfers went to their starting tees, the teams were addressed by Golf Head Coach Tyler Bishop, Interim Athletic Director Matt Johnson, and, making his first official appearance as Franklin Pierce University President, Peter Eden. President Eden thanked the golfers, sponsors, and donors for supporting Franklin Pierce Athletics and wished everyone a great day of golfing.
Dozens of carts scattered as teams were divided among the 18-hole course. Though morning dew covered the fairways early on, the sunshine dried out the greens, speeding them up as the day went on.
Beyond the 18 holes of golf, games and contests abounded. At the putting green, there was a "Monster Putt Challenge," and at the 12th tee, an “EZ Pass Challenge,” in addition to longest drive and two closest-to-the-pin contests. After about five hours of drives, chips, and putts, golfers filed into the clubhouse and scorecards were counted. Coach Bishop took to the center of the dance floor to announce the winners.
The first-place finisher for the tournament was the Seppala Construction team: Samuel Seppala, Mack Seppala, Seth Seppala, and Spencer Hannu. The second-place team included Bill Duerig ’73, Jim Corbin, Bill Heffernan ’77, and Tom Johnston.
