President Birge Elected to the Board of Directors for the New England Council

Dr. James F. Birge, President of Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H., has been elected to the Board of Directors for the New England Council, the nation’s oldest regional business organization dedicated to promoting economic development and a high quality of life in the six-state region.
“The New England Council’s many initiatives over the years serve to make the region an excellent place to live, work and do business,” said Dr. Birge. “I am pleased to bring to the board my insights on higher education, research and good business practices.”
The New England Council is an alliance of businesses, academic and health institutions, and public and private organizations throughout New England dedicated to identifying and supporting federal public policies and articulating the voice of its membership regionally and nationally on important issues facing New England.
The New England Council is also committed to working with public and private sector leaders across the region and in Washington through educational programs and forums for information exchange.
Dr. Birge was appointed the fourth President of Franklin Pierce University by the Board of Trustees in 2009. He holds a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University, an M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Westfield State College in Massachusetts.
