Franklin Pierce University Appoints Chief Diversity Officer

Franklin Pierce University announces the appointment of Pierre Morton as the University’s Chief Diversity Officer, effective April 12, 2021. Pierre joined the Franklin Pierce community in July 2019 as the Executive Director of the Lloyd & Helen Ament Astmann ’69 Career Center. The appointment follows a national search which drew the interest of hundreds of professionals from throughout New England and across the country. “I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the members of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council,” stated Dr. Kim Mooney, President of Franklin Pierce University. “Their collective focus and commitment allowed us to bring a significant search to a successful conclusion. Thank you, too, to all members of the Franklin Pierce community who participated in the interview processes throughout the search for our first Chief Diversity Officer.”

Since arriving at Franklin Pierce, Pierre Morton has provided individualized career
services programming for students and alumni and has promoted the importance of career
development activities for all majors and programs. Pierre designed and implemented
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion employer programs that increased participating underrepresented
students’ internship acquisition by 30 percent. In addition, he established the Raven
PAACT (Professional Alumni Advising and Career Tracks) platform and the Career Closet,
which provides assistance to underserved students.
Prior to his arrival at Franklin Pierce, Morton was the Assistant Director of Employer Relations at the University of New Haven where he oversaw employer relations functions for the Career Development Center. In this position, he successfully developed strategies to enhance relationships with employers from diverse local, regional, and national organizations. Pierre also executed a strategic employer development plan to expand campus recruiting opportunities for students and alumni of color from all degree programs.
Pierre holds an M.B.A. in Organizational Development from the University of New Haven and earned his B.S. and A.A.S. in Human Resource Management from Albertus Magnus College. He is a certified professional with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP) and will complete his doctoral program in education at Wilmington University in New Castle, DE later this year.
This important University position, proposed through the recent strategic plan, Pierce@60, reports directly to the President and will be responsible for establishing the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. “Our University community believes that diversity, equity and inclusiveness are fundamental to our institutional excellence. Pierre Morton not only embraces this philosophy, but will also help our community cultivate it on a daily basis,” stated President Mooney.
As the Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and the Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council, the CDO also holds responsibility for identifying ongoing opportunities to achieving institutional diversity, equity and inclusion goals and advising on strategy and commitment to overcoming barriers to them.
