Celebrate Earth Day with the Community

Franklin Pierce University will celebrate Earth Day on April 20, 2011. These events are for all ages and will be held in Pierce Hall, the Library courtyard and the Manor lawn on the Rindge campus. All events are free and open to the public.
Meet in Pierce Hall and Library courtyard:
Noon to 2 p.m.: Sustainability Fair, Pierce Hall (Displays and presentations on student and faculty projects - details below )
12:30 p.m.: Slideshow and presentation on Signs of Spring
1 p.m.: The Lorax – students will read the story to children and plant seeds afterwards
1:30 p.m.: Sack race to increase awareness of habitat destruction
1:30 p.m. Rindge Energy Commission's Carbon Challenge Results/RMS Poster Contest Winner will be announced.
1:45 p.m.: Tour of the Woodfuels Biomass Heating system- meet at the Granite Hall Woodfuels silo/boiler, Franklin Pierce's carbon-neutral heating system.
2 p.m.: Keeping the Earth Spinning – Earth Ball Volley contest
3 p.m.: Wetlands and vernal pool exploration - hike
4:30 p.m.: MorSoul Concert (open to all) and eco-barbecue ! (free with Franklin Pierce ID)

Clothes Upcycling - Rags to Riches in Minutes!
Come see the Spiralfoil – newest technology for generating wind power at home! The
founders of SpiralAirFoil will be on campus for this Earth Day event to demonstrate
their wind turbine. The turbine is geared toward home owners at an affordable price.
The small start-up company has developed a prototype that has competitive advantages
over other turbines, including the ability to generate electricity with minimum wind
speeds.

Displays and activities focusing on solutions to environmental problems - on topics
ranging from green cleaning, wind energy, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, reducing plastics,
the Pacific garbage patch, biodiesel alternatives, global population growth, composting,
recycling cell phones and other e-waste, reducing consumerism, keeping water pure,
solutions to tropical deforestation, etc.
