Franklin Pierce University Invites Public to Mental Health Forum

The Franklin Pierce University Medical Club and Franklin Pierce’s New England Center for Civic Life will present a deliberative forum on “Mental Illness in America” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, in room 101 of the Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication at the University’s Rindge campus.
Last spring President Obama challenged Americans to hold a national conversation to increase understanding and awareness about mental health. “We need to talk about mental health in this country,” said Joni Doherty, director of the New England Center for Civic Life, “and we are inviting members of surrounding communities to become involved in the dialogue.”
“More and more of us are taking medications for depression, hyperactivity, and other disorders. Meanwhile, dangerous illnesses are going undetected and untreated,” according to an issue advisory from the National Issues Forums Institute. A member of the Institute, the New England Center for Civic Life is sponsoring the forum as part of a national network of conversations on the topic.
