Student Government Association honors late faculty member, Dr. Richard Desmond at annual Faculty Staff Appreciation Night

Rindge, NH (Dec. 15, 2015) — Members of the Student Government Association (SGA) recognized a total of 17 outstanding faculty and staff, one in particular, to former Chemistry professor, Dr. Richard Desmond who passed away in November.
Every year the SGA nominates several faculty and staff members to be eligible for the award, and then the entire student body votes for who they think deserves to be recognized.
Dr. Desmond was nominated just before his passing. “I think the votes he received are a true testament to how great of a person and professor he was. He won by one of largest margins I have ever seen in my three years in student government,” said SGA secretary Amanda Tapparo.
Students described him as an amazing professor and mentor, even when they failed to produce a yield. “He was able to make organic chemistry fun, which is no easy task,” said senior Katrina Flory, “I’m sure any one Dr. Desmond’s students can draw a perfect hexagon after taking his courses.”
Dr. Desmond’s wife, Ashley Bartelson, and father Tony Desmond were in attendance to accept the award on his behalf.
In addition to Dr. Desmond, the following faculty and staff were recognized for their hard work to the community and students at the University: Professors Bill Costa, Christine Betts, Jean Dawson, Leila Jabbour; EVS Staff: Clair Alix, Eric Cone, Lisa McGee, Mary Blake, Tim Croteau, John Giandalone, Nancy Ringland, and Kevin Wheeler; electrician Rob Hannings; Campus Safety Officers: Craig Graham and Ladrina "Dee" Carroll and Sodexo staff: Arwyn Lennon.
