Polling for 2008 Election Year
Jan 1, 2020

Consistent with the Franklin Pierce University Fitzwater Center's commitment to providing students with outstanding educational experiences in professional environments, student volunteers and interns have immersed themselves in the political polling process during the 2008 New Hampshire Primary and General Election season.
The University has partnered with veteran political analyst R. Kelly Myers to carry out a polling program that allows students to participate in survey design, data collection, analysis and media relations - all while working to create a statistically-valid product with solid news value.
Dr. Myers, who has conducted polling through five New Hampshire presidential primary seasons, is ready to go through his sixth election cycle as a Senior Fellow in the Fitzwater Center. Dr. Myers will also teach a political polling course as part of the Franklin Pierce's First in the Nation collaboration with Wartburg College in Iowa.
The number of polls to be conducted during the primary season will be determined by the pace of the primary itself. The first polls were released in March 2007. A second set of polls focused on the June presidential candidate debates. Successive polls have followed, leading to New Hampshire's Presidential Primary in January 2008.
Poll results are utilized by the media and are used to drive Student Media Press Conferences and the Tuesday Briefing programming at the Fitzwater Center.

Democrats |
Following Iowa, Obama continues to close the gap with Hillary. He has a slight "lead," but it is within the margin of error of the poll. |
The perception that Hillary's candidacy is "inevitable" no longer holds among NH voters. |
Republicans |
McCain continues to lead Romney. However, we do not know how the results of last night's debate may have changed the dynamic of the race. in NH. Huckabee got a little bounce out of Iowa, but he continues to trail the 2 front runners. Giuliani's decision to opt out of Iowa will hurt him here in NH. It remains to be seen if he can bounce back after a poor showing in Iowa and (presumably) NH. |

Republican Presidential Primary |
Although early in the contest, the historic 2008 New Hampshire Republican Primary is already highly competitive, with clear front-runners well established in the race. Currently, John McCain and Rudolph Giuliani are the early front-runners among likely Republican Primary voters, with Mitt Romney in a competitive third place. Apart from Newt Gingrich - who has not stated his intention to run for the Republican nomination - each of the other candidates currently attracts little support. |

Democratic Presidential Primary |
With nearly a year before the much anticipated 2008 New Hampshire Presidential Primary, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are the early front-runners among likely Democratic Primary voters, with John Edwards in a competitive third place. Apart from Al Gore - who has not stated his intention to run for the Democratic nomination - all of the other candidates currently attract little support. |
