The Career Center provides exceptional career services to all enrolled students and alumni. We advise students for success with a five-step strategic planning and developmental model of career development that ensures all students discover campus resources, explore career opportunities, engage in experiential learning and internships, prepare for their college to career transition, and implement strategies to remain competitive in a dynamic job market.
Assessment
- Identify values, skills, and strengths, weaknesses, aptitudes and goals
- Establish relationships with Career Center staff for individual coaching
- Explore online tools and resources
Exploration
- Research majors, minors, and careers
- Compare assessment results to various careers
- Consider development of additional skills matching your desired career and industry
Preparation
- Develop a positive online presence which includes social networks such as LinkedIn
- Learn to create professional resumes and cover letters
- Utilize career services and online career tools
- Identify and develop soft skills that will improve your career readiness
Decision-Making
- Increase your competitiveness by obtaining experiential learning opportunities, internships, and jobs
- Identify mentoring and extracurricular activities that prepare you for success
- Reflect on an internship experience or mentoring session to determine if better suited for a more specific subset of an occupation or industry sector
Implementation
- Put into practice the skills knowledge and abilities obtained from strategic planning and strategic development
- Apply to internships graduate schools and jobs
- Analyze your progress making the necessary adjustments along the way
- Attend career fairs, networking events, and connect with the Franklin Pierce Alumni Association
