Presentation Title: "Comparative Study of Special Education State Licensure Requirements"
Abstract:
The focus of this study is Teacher Licensure Reciprocity among the New England States in Special Education. The goal of the study was to examine the following questions regarding licensure practice which include: 1) Has the state signed the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement?, 2) Does the state require out of state teachers to take additional coursework?, 3) Does the state provide exemptions for coursework requirements?, 4)Do states require additional assessments?, 5)Does the state have different requirements in place for experienced and inexperienced out of state teachers?, 6)Does the state require out of state teachers to provide evidence of effectiveness?, and 7)Does the state provide special reciprocity for out of state teachers with advanced credentials? Many of the New England states have different teacher licensure requirements for being able to teach in that state. The results indicate variance dependent upon the state you look at and its unique perspectives on licensure.
