Presentation Title: "How does the carnivore diet affect athletic performance"
Abstract:
All athletes want to perform at their best. They will go to extremes in practice and high-level training to reach peak performance, needing to pay close attention to exercise, sleep, and nutrition in addition to training.
Athletes are known to try a variety of different diets to enhance their performance, with many of these diets claiming to increase energy, endurance and more. One of these diets, the carnivore diet, is the subject of this literature review and analysis. This diet was also compared to guidelines provided by certified sports nutritionists to assess any short or long-term dangers or problems associated with the diet.
This literature revew and consultation with material written by sports nutrition experts reveals that while in some studies the diet may produce some short term performance benefits for some athletes, it does not provide adequate carbohydrate (for protein sparing) over the longer term and may lead to heart disease, dehydration and kidney failure).
