Presentation Title: "Okinawa Blue Zone and Implementing Their Practice to Franklin Pierce University"
Abstract:
This poster is focusing on Dan Buettner’s Blue Zone project. There are currently five known
Blue Zones in the world, which are areas where there is a high population of centenarians.
There are nine different aspects of life that are common across these areas. All nine
fall into the category of movement, connections, having the right outlook, and eating
habits. The Blue Zone that is the main focus of this poster is Okinawa Japan. Residents
of Okinawa have specific health behaviors that contribute to them being able to live
over 100 years old. For example, the foods they eat, who they surround themselves
with, and their active lifestyles. The Blue Zone model has been implemented in some
towns and cities in the United States, such as Albert Lea, Minnesota. Programs and
initiatives were analyzed from these models and slightly altered to implement into
the Franklin Pierce community. Hopefully, this research and implementation plans will
reach surrounding communities.
